Yehliu Geological Scenic Park
Yehliu Geological Scenic Park is truly a park of natural wonders: rocks carved by
wave-cutting and weathering over years and years were formed into shapes resembling
figures that are real. The most famous one is of course the Queen’s Head, among
other “statues” that are named the Fairy’s Shoe, the Mushroom Rocks, the Tofu Rocks,
and the Elephant Rocks, along with many interesting potholes. Do not forget to bring
your camera.
-
Yin Yang Sea
Located beside the northern coastal road in the Gold Ecological Park region is Yin
Yang Sea, a curiously colored patch of water. The complementary blue and yellow
coloring of this bay brings to mind the ancient Chinese principle of yin and yang,
the natural concept of duality. Just as with the dichotomy of light and dark, or
cold and hot, Yin Yang Sea expresses a natural balance of two sides of a mutual
whole. This awe-inspiring scene provides a perfect opportunity to pause and contemplate
what other contrary forces in nature are actually interconnected concepts. Remove
assumptions, take a step back, and open your mind to the beauty of nature.
-
Golden Waterfall
Golden Waterfall is located near the Gold Ecological Park in Jinguashi. Although
real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly
a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this
mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed.
The cascade of gold flowing down the hillside contrasts to the luminous green grass
at its head. Indeed, the natural beauty of this place makes it a favorite for photography
among newly-weds. But it’s not just star-struck lovers who will fall for this place,
we guarantee impressive photographs to everyone who makes a visit.
-
Jinguashi Gold Ecological Park
Gold Ecological Park is Taiwan’s first park combining ecology and museum, which
contains museum, tunnel, shrine remains, Japanese dormitory, Crown prince Chalet,
police station and post office. The Gold Museum exhibits the mining history, historical
pieces and documents concerning the mining industry, as well as gold related knowledge.
You may also touch a 220-kilogram 999% pure gold brick.
-
Jiufen
Jiufen used to the center of gold mining. It is located within the hills in northeast
of Taiwan. The village is next to the mountain and facing the sea. In 1890, someone
struck gold near Jiufen (Jioufen). The poor village with only nine families soon
attracted prospectors of 4,000 families. The village once was gold city of Asia
and called little Shanghai or little Hong Kong. However, with the decline of gold
mining activities, Jiufen (Jioufen) fades. Later, several movies chose to shoot
here and the movies won international acknowledgement. For example, the film the
Sad City has won first prize in Venice Film Festival and awakened people's memory
of Jiufen (Jioufen). It seems that the prosperous old streets, buildings, mines
and the glamorous gold digging days are flashing before our eyes. The place is whispering
its golden past. Now, there are many unique teahouses in Jiufen (Jioufen). These
teahouses are best stops during visit to this mountain village. Also, there is the
beautiful ocean view of Keelung outer sea.
-
Shifen
Shifen Special Scenic Area is located in Shifenliao between Shiding, Ruifang and
Shuangxi in northeastern Taiwan. Administratively part of Pingxi District, New Taipei
City, the terrain here has been carved by a tributary of the Keelung River, northern
Taiwan's largest and longest river, into a ravine with a dissected topography. The
faults and rock formations have given birth to numerous waterfalls along the river
extending north from Houtong to Sandiaoling and onwards to Shifenliao and Pingxi.
Among the biggest and best known of these falls, and a popular visitor attraction,
is Shifen Waterfall.
-
Pingxi Lantern
Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is one of the three most popular and well - known celebration
event during the Lantern Festival. Since 1999, the Taipei County Government has
devoted substantial resources to promote this festival, in a bid to promote it to
